 | In 1933 Armin Hernke started making club cheese (cold pack cheese spread) in his cheese factory just east of Hilbert, Wisconsin under the Calumet brand. Within a few years dealers in all parts of the United States were handling Calumet Club Cheese. In the late 1930’s the name was changed to WisPride to better reflect the proud heritage of the cheese, The Pride of Wisconsin.
The Hernke family sold WisPride to Nestle Cheese Division in 1970. It was subsequently purchased by Fromageries Bel in the mid 1980’s.
In 1996 Fromageries Bel and Kaukauna Cheese merged forming Bel/Kaukauna U.S.A., at which time production of WisPride Cheese was moved to our present location in Little Chute, Wisconsin.
Today, WisPride along with its sister brand Kaukauna Cheese are available nation-wide and have become America’s preferred spreadable cheeses. |
